The Institute of Gelotology offers a range of workshops designed to foster personal growth, emotional resilience, and community connection through the lens of humor. Our programs are facilitated by licensed clinicians and experienced performers following established research protocols.

Humor-Informed Care (HIC)
The Focus: Individual and group psychotherapy.
The Method: Delivered by licensed clinicians, these sessions utilize specific humor intervention techniques to supplement traditional therapeutic goals.
The Goal: Integrating laughter as a clinical tool to improve patient outcomes and emotional regulation.
The Focus: Active listening and emotional resilience.
The Method: A safe, structured environment where participants practice "Yes, And..." techniques to adapt to uncertainty in real-time.
The Goal: To promote mindfulness and decrease anxiety through spontaneous, collaborative play.
The Focus: Self-reflection and cognitive reframing.
The Method: Participants learn to take personal struggles and transform them into vulnerable, comedic stories.
The Goal: To empower individuals to destigmatize their own experiences and gain narrative control over their personal history.
The Focus: Communication and Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
The Method: Using the collaborative process of sketch writing to explore character arcs and problem-solving.
The Goal: To practice healthy communication and collaborative conflict resolution in a creative setting.
The Focus: Agency and perspective-taking.
The Method: Guiding participants to produce short visual narratives that critique societal stigmas and externalize personal challenges.
The Goal: To foster narrative control and provide a creative outlet for social commentary and personal advocacy.
Every workshop participant has the opportunity to contribute to our ongoing research into the science of laughter.
Multidisciplinary Oversight: Data is collected by a team of licensed clinicians and academic researchers (PhDs and graduate students).
Voluntary Participation: All data collection is anonymous and 100% voluntary.
Contribution to Science: Your participation helps inform the papers published in the Journal of Applied Gelotology (JOAG).
